Harold Lezzeni was 81 years old when the house he was born in was wrecked by the landslide - there were four feet of mud that cascaded down the hill behind his place and clean through the living area of the house, sweeping away his library, his photographs, his furniture, and everything.

What could he do? He was 81…his insurance didn’t cover anything due to “floods”, which included the rainstorm that brought the mud. The county, on whose land the mudslide originated, allowed him to spend hundreds of hours over two years compiling the damage figures, and then informed him that they were immune from his claim, so long as no bodily injury was involved. The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) gave him $6,000.00.
