I haven’t taken time to write much but a summary, but here is a photo…
This is Standen House, looking at the entrance with a medieval farmer’s cottage on the right that Webb incorporated rather than demolish. It’s SO peaceful and filled with joy. We loved it. The gardener had put out new potatoes and zucchini for anyone to take, leaving a donation. We had them for supper.
UPDATED with Photos
July 12, 2006
Loud voices at 7:00 from folks eating breakfast at the picnic tables outside under our windows….
we got up just before 8:00 and still waited around a bit to use the kitchen. Got away before 10:00.
We saw Standen House, built for the Beale family by Webb, an Arts and Crafts guy, in the 1890s. We could move right in – it’s just wonderful…as are the grounds.
Then to Virginia Woolf’s summer cottage where she did a lot of writing – the Monk’s House. I don’t know that I took a single photo—unless you’re quite a VW fan, it’s not much of a site.
Then we just missed Lewes Castle….but the barbican made a nice photo. Unfortunately, I didn’t resize the photo, and the computer won’t digest the 3 meg files in the original, so here’s a shot of a couple of houses on the High Street.
From here we went back to Telscombe Village,
feeling lost almost the entire way. But, we got there safely and had a wonderful supper, blabbing with a bunch of diverse and interesting people.
NICE pictures! I’m glad you’re enjoying your new camera!!
