BRITAIN IS FIGHTING BACK…...

Scores of officials from the government fan out across the country to check on what parents are teaching their children…..what can Tony Blair’s minions be worried about?  Hatred for the pigs and dogs that are the Jews and infidels?  The culture of alcohol that produces England’s “yobs” and embarrasses every decent Briton at most soccer matches?  The “tart-culture” and fatherlessness that ravages English society’s family life?

No, no…..it’s all about the nursery rhymes, don’t you see?  You think I’m kidding, don’t you?  You think that someone in England started a rival to The Onion…
I wish…..

ARE WE DOOMED…...?

MARK STEYN seems to think so.

Fatma An-Najar, a 64-year-old grandmother…had a livelier Thanksgiving than most grandmas. She marked the occasion by self-detonating in the town of Jebaliya, and, although all she had to show for splattering body parts over the neighborhood were three “lightly wounded” Israeli soldiers, she will have an honored place in the pantheon of Palestinian heroes….An-Najar gave birth to her first child at the age of 12. She had eight others. She had 41 grandchildren. Keep that family tree in mind. By contrast, in Spain, a 64-year old woman will have maybe one grandchild. That’s four grandparents, one grandchild: a family tree with no branches….With every passing month, there are more Muslims and fewer Episcopalians, and the Muslims export their manpower to Europe and other depopulating outposts of the West. It’s the intersection of demography and Islamism that makes time a luxury we can’t afford.

On the other hand, RALPH PETERS  thinks that latent European savagery will save the day!  Truly.

A RASH of pop prophets tell us that Muslims in Europe are reproducing so fast and European societies are so weak and listless that, before you know it, the continent will become “Eurabia,“ with all those topless gals on the Riviera wearing veils.

Well, maybe not.

The notion that continental Europeans, who are world-champion haters, will let the impoverished Muslim immigrants they confine to ghettos take over their societies and extend the caliphate from the Amalfi Coast to Amsterdam has it exactly wrong.

The endangered species isn’t the “peace loving” European lolling in his or her welfare state, but the continent’s Muslims immigrants - and their multi-generation descendents - who were foolish enough to imagine that Europeans would share their toys.

PERSECUTION FOR “FLYING WHILE MUSLIM” IS NOTHING NEW…..

His flight from O’Hare to LaGuardia delayed more than six hours, Hamas militant and would-be suicide bomber Nidal Hanani vowed never again to fly United Airlines….“My jihad against the West was supposed to be carried out shortly after takeoff at 8:35 this morning. It is now 2:50 p.m. How much longer must I sit around this airport like an idiot before God’s will is done?“

THE RELEVANT QUESTION

Most of us have heard the story of the six imams who were asked to get off the airplane in Minnesota, refused and were escorted off against their will.  I’ve heard various stories about exactly why—and it’s a matter of some wonder to me that none of the passengers who complained about the behavior of these Muslim imams have been interviewed.  Anyhow, Mona Charen has the best piece I’ve read about this event…..here’s the money paragraph:

Is it discrimination? Well, of course it is. But that cannot be the end of the discussion. We are so robotic in America whenever the word “discrimination” is used that we shut down thought and all genuflect in the direction of whoever is complaining. But the proper question is not whether it is discrimination but whether it is justified.

LATEST SIGN OF THE APOCALYPSE…..

“10 is the new 15” is the headline.

...child development experts say that physical and behavioral changes that would have been typical of teenagers decades ago are now common among “tweens” - kids ages 8 to 12.

I can believe the behavioral changes, but I need to see actual data for the physical - it reads a bit like an attempt by the adults to avoid responsibility for depriving their kids of their childhood.

Some of them are going on “dates” and talking on their own cell phones. They listen to sexually charged pop music, play mature-rated video games and spend time gossiping on MySpace. And more girls are wearing makeup and clothing that some consider beyond their years.

WHEN YOU THINK OF OUR GUYS IN AFGHANISTAN, PLEASE THINK OF LIMA…..

She’s a young woman visiting the United States, who runs a fashion business under less-than-favorable circumstances….

She is a designer and has 500 women embroidering her designs in their homes. She brought with her a selection of her fashions, which she promoted every chance she could. When her clothes sold out during one of the dinners, she made sure she returned to her room to re-stock and sell some more.

She was also fairly direct with the ambassador. “There is not enough security,” she declared. “What is the government doing? Why is the government not doing more? We are not safe,” she told him. “The government is not doing enough,” she repeated.

Lima lives in Kandahar, where the Taliban, once again, appears to be gaining support. She moves around the city by herself, giving material to the women she employs and picking up their finished work. “Aren’t you afraid?” I asked. She is just 23. “I am brave,” she said. Then she shrugged her delicate shoulders, as if to say that she would give herself no other choice. “I must be brave,” she said.

Please imagine what will happen if we “cut and run” from this particular skirmish in the Global War on Terror…..what will you say to women like Lima?

IF YOU’RE A PARENT WITH A KID GOING TO COLLEGE, *THIS* IS GOING TO HURT….

And if you’re a parent with a kid that is someday going to go to college, you’re involved, too…...

The National Survey of Student Engagement (NSSE) has a report out…..and the news isn’t good.

The average amount of study time is roughly half the amount that professors think is necessary for adequate progress. Students find that college is a fun environment and most of them decide that they don’t want class preparation to get in the way of other activities….the NSSE figures show that many college students get little practice in writing….the NSSE data appear to show that large numbers of students are only marginally interested in their coursework since they say that they only “sometimes” or never discuss it….All in all, NSSE gives a picture of American college students that tells us that many appear to coast through their courses without putting in a great deal of effort. This view is entirely consistent with the data in the National Assessment of Adult Literacy (which I wrote about here) showing low and declining levels of literacy among college graduates.
